ROUND ONE: GREAT EXPERIMENT
group exibition
may 28 - august 22, 2010

Michael W. Driesch and Theofilos Klonaris are pleased to announce the opening of their group exhibition by Driesch:Klonaris entitled "First Round: Great Experiment". In their first show at the gallery in a gorgeous 16th century palace building in the heart of the town of Palma de Majorca, the both have wryly observed that a group exhibition was chosen for being the only solution that would arouse neither controversy nor consternation. A number of people who know the story of the building and are very familiar with the opera, are still surprised to learn that one of the most famous bass singers of the 19th century, Francesco UETAM (an anagram of Mateu) has spent his whole life within these walls. Art history runs in a current alongside "real" music history but isn't linked to it. So it's interesting in how you pull an artist's work back into the period when it was made, and how you connect a painting to something you're involved with, not just modern art. "First Round: Great Experiment" is of the painting. Juxtaposing modern and contemporary artists, be they established and outsider, Driesch:Klonaris establish a cross-generational dialogue among artists and the viewer as a means to investigate the nature of painting, and to question more broadly certain perceived hierarchies in painting. While "First Round:Great Experiment" is dominated by many young artists, Driesch:Klonaris have also included paintings of a kind, the better to reflect the relationship between an old fashioned medium, such as painting, and how it’s influenced the seventh art. Gallery hours are Mondays through Fridays 10 – 14 and 17 - 20 pm. Saturdays 11 - 14 pm. For further information or visuals, please contact Michael W.Driesch/ Theofilos Klonaris.
